Displaying your screen on a Projector or TV
To project the screen turn both the laptop and projector on so both machines are ready to be used.
There will be one of 2 types of cable connecting to the projector, the first being a HDMI cable which can plug directly into the laptop, the second is a VGA cable which will need to be plugged into an adaptor that then goes into the laptop (if you do not have one of these adaptors, please speak to IT so they can provide you with one)
When the cable is plugged in, the laptop should automatically recognise the projector and switch the screen to either show the same as the laptop screen, also known as Duplicate or will show the desktop but will be different to the laptop screen, also known as Extended, the extended desktop allows you to drag and drop programs from the main laptop screen to the extended screen.
NOTE: If after plugging in the projector only one screen is shown, either the laptop on its own or the projector on its own, this means the settings are set to Show Only Screen 1 or 2, in this case hold the Windows Key + P, this is a shortcut to change the projector settings where you can change it to Duplicate or Extend, if for whatever reason this doesn't work, go onto the desktop, right click and select the option "Display Settings", a new window will appear and at the very bottom with have the option of screen displays, change this to either Duplicate or Extend.
IMPORTANT FOR SOUND!: If the sound isn't working when plugging in the projector, this is because the sound default has changed from the laptop to the projector itself, to resolve this, click on the speaker icon at the bottom right of the screen, this will show the volume and the device its selected, next to the device its selected if an up arrow, click here and select one of the other options, test sound, if still no sound try any other options available, if in this instance no option gives you sound, please contact IT so they can assist.
